Fall is one of Halifax’s most beautiful seasons. The vibrant colours make for breathtaking scenes and landscapes. Along with the beauty of the season, there are so many ways to enjoy fall in Halifax: festivals and markets, great adventures, cozy places and more.

  • Summer and fall are the best seasons for whale watching in NS. We are lucky to have 12 species of whales that visit our province each year. Make sure to enjoy a whale watching adventure before the season ends!
  • Are you a surf lover? Nova Scotia's shores offer prime surfing time during the fall season (August-November). Catch some waves at Lawrencetown Beach, Cow Bay, Rainbow Haven Beach and more.

Halifax is home to so many local coffee shops. Whether you’re a tea drinker, coffee drinker, or prefer something on the fancy side, these coffee shops and cafés can warm you up as the days start to cool down:

Try a New Restaurant

Order a delicious dessert or enjoy a dinner with friends at one of Halifax’s newest restaurants:

  • Cacao 70 Eatery/Dip Shop: The Montreal-based chain came to Halifax in October and is located in the Historic Properties.
  • Waffle Love:This sweet little restaurant re-opened in September on Gottingen Street.
  • Rossetto’s:“Dartmouth’s Home for Italian Eats” opened its door in October.

Fall kicks off the holiday season, and what better way to get in the spirit than to check out one of Halifax’s many holiday events with your family and friends!

  • Shopping Under The Stars (Nov 23 – Nov 30) is a two-night event where you can take advantage of amazing deals, discounts, and free items at Spring Garden Road’s many shops!
  • Dalplex Christmas Craft Market (Nov 23 – Nov 25) featuring vendors from the Atlantic region and across Canada exhibiting their handcrafted pottery, jewelry, woodwork, toys, handmade treasures, delicious treats and more. There will be wonderful live music and a canteen as well!
  • Annual Sackville Christmas Tree Lighting (Nov 30) features live music, treats and a visit from Santa Claus.
  • TD Dartmouth Christmas Tree Lighting (Dec 1) is a family fun event featuring the lighting of the Christmas tree, a visit from Santa Claus, Christmas shows and fireworks.
