A Day in The Life: Summer in Halifax

August 1, 2018

Whether it be rain or shine, there is never a lack of things to do in Halifax during the summer season. The boardwalk comes to life with the opening of pop-up vendors, patios at every turn, and boats sailing through the harbour. Our parks and beaches are full of happy residents and visitors. Every where you turn, there’s a new way to pass the hot summer days.

Festival Season is Here

Summertime in Halifax means that it’s officially festival season. Whether you’re interested in music, entertainment, food, or culture, we have got a festival for you. Halifax Jazz Fest and Halifax Pop Explosion are two of Halifax’s biggest music festivals that take place every summer, and as popularity increased, so has the talent that comes here. If music isn’t your thing, the Tall Ships Festival, Buskers Festival, Lebanese Festival or Halifax Seaport Beerfest are sure to keep you entertained with sparkling views, exciting acts, and great eats and drinks all summer long.

Support Local

Here in Halifax we are lucky to have so many unique and thriving local businesses. From clothing, to food and drink, to one of a kind “you can only get this here” items, Halifax has got it all, especially in the summer. Stores like The Black Market, the Trainyard General Store, Room 152, Sweet Pea Boutique and more bring out their colourful and unique pieces to liven up the streets. There are also a plethora of staple local cafes, restaurants and bars like The Bicycle Thief, The Canteen, Izzy’s Bagel Co., Humani-t, and many more. We recommend taking a sunny afternoon to walk the streets to see our unique local businesses for yourself – you never know what you’ll find!

Explore the City in a New Way

Halifax is a city that was made for walking and biking, but have you ever considered exploring our city in a less conventional way? Summertime is the perfect opportunity. Travel by land by visiting Segway Nova Scotia, where you will receive a guided tour by an operator who knows everything there is to know about Halifax. Travel by sea between Halifax and Dartmouth by jumping on the ferry or taking a kayak out for a spin. In the mood for both? Travel by both with the Halifax Harbour Hopper, which takes you throughout the historical streets of Halifax, and then straight into the Halifax Harbour for a unique view of the city.

When You Need a Break from the Sun

On those days when you need a break from the sun, there is no shortage of things to do that don’t require sunscreen. The Museum of Natural History is celebrating its 150th anniversary this summer, along with exciting exhibits ranging from Animals of the Rainforest to Cat Fest 2018. If you’re interested in the arts and culture scene Halifax has to offer, head over to Symphony Nova Scotia, The Nova Scotia Art Gallery or Neptune Theatre to enjoy smash hits all summer long.

No matter how you choose to spend your summer in Halifax, take time to relax and enjoy our city and all it has to offer.
