EL - girl imageAs Nova Scotia faces the outmigration of skilled young professionals, we also face a decline in our economy, and our social and cultural development as a result. Now is the time for business, industry, community organizations, and educational institutions to unite in a new approach that puts experiential learning at the forefront.

The Halifax Partnership has embarked on a mission to create more experiential learning opportunities for students and engage more businesses and organizations in these opportunities. The Experiential Learning Initiative is a simple and effective program that matches local businesses and organizations with post-secondary students studying in Nova Scotia who are looking for work experience.

Experiential learning is the application of classroom learning in a professional workplace. It’s more than just “doing something”, it’s “learning by doing something”.

Students in undergraduate, graduate, and diploma programs gain the hands-on experience and skills they need to find meaningful employment in Nova Scotia after graduation, while business, industry, and community partners gain access to a pool of young talent who come prepped with fresh, creative ideas and the enthusiasm to strive for continued success.

Nova Scotia benefits from a strong post-secondary education system with world-class universities and a strong community college with campuses spread across the province. The students that attend these institutions are filled with the knowledge and skills needed to grow your business and our economy. With over 20 different types of experiential learning, there’s a fit for every business, no matter the size or industry:

  • Applied Research
  • Apprenticeships

Whether you need a full-time summer co-op student, a part-time research assistant, an extra hand carrying out a community service project, or someone with a fresh perspective to revitalize your business, there is a student out there ready and willing to work with you.

By offering experiential learning opportunities, you are supporting youth with the opportunities and network they need to thrive in Nova Scotia, while connecting to a talent pool of engaged young professionals that can support your company and its growth.
