Explore Shubie Park in Dartmouth where you walk along the historic Shubie Canal, ride your bike or take a swim in the lake. Heading out of the city, you can be kayaking in St Margarets bay in just 30 minutes, relaxing on ocean front beaches, exploring nearby hiking and biking tails or explore some of our premier surf locations. (Did you know - Halifax is considered a leading destination for cold water surfing in the world.) There are also many options for organized sports and indoor recreational facilities throughout Halifax.

Arts & Culture

The local arts scene offers plenty of options for live theatre, music, museums, and art galleries. You can catch a live Broadway production at Neptune Theatre, a local staging from Zuppa Theatre Co, or classic Shakespeare outdoors in Point Pleasant Park. The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia boasts work from local and international artists, the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic charts our nautical history, and the Natural history museum is a favorite with the kids. If live music is more your thing you can catch up with some classical tunes from Symphony Nova Scotia, take in the Atlantic Jazz Festival every summer, see touring acts like Paul McCartney or the Rolling Stones on the Halifax Common, or check out the local artists playing at bars and pubs all over the city.

You'll never go hungry in Halifax with dining options ranging from standard pub fare to fine dining found at more than 450 establishments. Sample local favorites like lobster, Atlantic salmon, and Digby scallops from favorites like the 5 Fishermen or McKelvie's restaurant or explore ethnic offerings from Cha Bha Thai, Hamachi House (Japanese), Bicycle Theif (Italian), Mezza (Lebanese). After your meal be sure to take in the legendary Halifax nightlife at one of hundreds of local watering holes. You can find your Celtic roots at popular spots such as the Lower Deck, The Old Triangle, or Celtic Corner where there's sure to be live local music. For the late-night dancer head down to night clubs like Reflections Cabaret, Pacifico, or the Dome.
