Purpose:

The Halifax Partnership is seeking an Account Executive - Investment Attraction, Innovation, a key sales role for the organization. The position will proactively and strategically sell the Halifax Innovation Value Proposition as part of the overall business case of Talent, Location, Cost – Innovation (TLC-I) to national and international companies that could benefit from having a Halifax location.

This role is key to the Halifax Partnership’s focus on building an innovation-driven entrepreneurial ecosystem in Halifax.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with the team and rely on competitive intelligence gathering to develop targeted plans and tactics to proactively generate leads and accelerate the conversion of leads to new investments that could take advantage of the TLC-I value proposition.
  • Work in close partnership and alignment with the Halifax Partnerships’ Sales Engineer – Innovation to identify international companies that may be a good fit to take advantage of the research-rich environment in Halifax.
  • In collaboration with the Research and Marketing and Communication Teams, prepare and assemble customized investor response packages and targeted responses to specific projects and client requests. This may include referrals to industry and government contacts, arranging meetings with key industry executives, providing information on real estate, or providing market intelligence to potential investors.
  • Build and sustain credible, long-term relationships with clients, industry associations, sector groups, public sector organizations, service providers and other stakeholders to enhance lead generation and superior client servicing.
  • Manage client files within the organization’s Client Relationships Management (CRM) system.
  • Leverage research generated by the Research Team to develop recommendations and value propositions for clients.
  • Regularly participate in events and activities that will help raise Halifax’s profile globally as a major centre of innovation and growth for international business investors.
  • Contribute to a culture of teamwork, accountability, collaboration, regionalism and client-centricity.
  • Constantly update own knowledge of Halifax and continuously build an understanding of the propositions for businesses looking to locate in the region.
  • Establishing trusting and collaborative working relationships with partner organizations such as NSBI, ACOA, etc. will be important. Joint “team” approach for some files will be critical.
  • Working within a focused framework of accountability, play a key role on the team reaching shared sales targets, i.e., number of new companies choosing Halifax as a location, number of companies locating in the Innovation District.
  • Establishing trusting working relationships with key decision makers will be key.
  • Strong written and verbal presentation skills.
  • Strong negotiation and proven track record of closing a sale will be important.
  • Maintain a high-level of confidentiality.

Qualifications:

Requirements

  • Minimum five-seven years’ professional experience in business and sales.
  • Technology or engineering post-secondary background would be an asset.
  • Economic development experiences an asset.
  • Strong presentation and negotiation skills.

Knowledge and Skills 

  • Ability to leverage relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to collaborate with clients and partners across multiple organizations and community groups.
  • Knowledge and understanding of industry sectors in Halifax
  • Knowledge of the post-secondary institutions and their general strengths
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to pivot quickly
  • Proven high-level verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent database management skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and cooperatively as part of a team to meet organizational objectives.
  • Superior time management and organizational skills with the ability to plan, organize and prioritize work for self is a must.
  • Excellent follow-up skills.
  • Superior attention to detail.
  • Strong facilitation skills.
  • Ability to travel when required.
  • Flexibility to attend some evening events when required.
