Over the next three years, the Partnership will lead the development of Halifax’s Innovation District, working in collaboration with Dalhousie University and other post-secondary partners, the private sector, Nova Scotia’s MIT REAP team, and all levels of government.

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Vice President, Program Planning and Operations, the Director, Halifax Innovation District, is responsible for leading the development and implementation of a three-year Strategic Plan for the Halifax Innovation District.

Strategic Planning:

  • Identify key stakeholders and formalize a collaborative innovation network of leaders that will set the vision, guide the development and oversee the implementation of a three-year Master Plan. 
  • In partnership with the Innovation Network, and the Partnership’s Board of Directors, manage the development of the Master Plan that has a highly visual long-term vision for growth, prioritized actions, clearly defined measures for success and “must-win” battles designed to position the Halifax Innovation District as the innovation anchor for Nova Scotia.

Program Delivery and Financial Management:

  • Lead the design, development and execution of comprehensive annual work plans, budgets and resource plans with annual targets.
  • Monitor and report on progress against targets.


  • Identify the assets in the innovation district in the context of global opportunities and competition -- identify capabilities, key strengths and weaknesses and a regional and global scan of opportunities.

Community Engagement and Outreach:

  • Act as a champion for the innovation district -- develop and execute an engagement strategy for multiple audiences to ensure the development and validation of shared understandings and inspire excitement and confidence.
  • Represent the Innovation District in interactions with public and private sector, community leaders, media representatives, and others of mutual concern. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Five years relevant experience in a senior leadership capacity
  • Prior Board experience and demonstrated knowledge and experience in policy governance.
  • Knowledge of strategic and operational planning, negotiation, implementation and evaluation of priorities, significant achievements, tangible results and risk management.
  • Excellent financial, human relations and project management expertise.
  • Excellent total quality management and advocacy expertise.
  • Proven track record of building and maintaining effective stakeholder relationships.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated collaborative approach.
