“If you have that drive to create a career for yourself and are willing to take ownership on finding a career here in Halifax, then I think the Connector Program is a great opportunity”.
Operating in the region since 1955, CBCL Limited is the largest privatly owned multidesciplined engineering firm in Atlantic Canada. A proud Connector Organization, there are four active connectors from CBCL’s Halifax head office who have met with a total of 13 Connectees over the last two years. They’ve helped connect new graduates and international professionals with many engineering contacts and industry networks.
Kent Lane, Director of Corporate Affairs, shares why he thinks it’s important to be a Game Changer and help young talent get connected in Halifax.
What is the biggest benefit of being involved in the Connector Program at the Halifax Partnership?
“As a working professional in Halifax, I believe the best part of the Connector Program is the opportunity to offer advice and wisdom to young people looking to build their careers. The biggest benefit for me is to offer graduates an opportunity to learn about the local region and business community”.
What value does the Connector Program offer?
“Young professionals come to Halifax to find a job, integrate into the community and call Halifax home. Business folks in Halifax know the community and opportunities. They might not be able to get Connectees a job directly, but the Connector Program exists to create opportunities and make meaningful connections”.
What advice do you have for recent graduates?
“I would give young professionals the same advice I would give my own children. You have to find your way by creating opportunities for yourself. Other Connectors play the same role, guiding young people towards career opportunities.
By participating the Connector Program, you’re actively choosing to connect with professionals who will give you the advice, tools and connections to make roots in Halifax. If you have that drive to create a career for yourself, and are willing to take ownership on finding a career here, then I think the Connector Program is a great opportunity”.
