#HireMeHalifax Pitch Contest

Congratulations to our #HireMeHalifax Video Contest winnerMatthew Burton, who took home the $1,000 cash prize. Our runners up were:

2nd place - Nick Punjabi
3rd place - Madeline Jewers

From February 6 - March 5, 2018, we challenged Halifax's young talent to submit their best elevator pitch. One march 27th, the top ten participants presented their pitches live at the Marriot Harbourfront Hotel to an audience of students, employers and a panel of judges.

When the Game Changers Action Plan launched in 2015, 1,300 young professionals were leaving our province - taking their ideas, talent and skills with them. Below is just a small sample of the talent Halifax has to offer. Every business has a role to play in retaining our youth.

Matthew Burton

(1st place)

Matthew is a driven and determined finance student in his final semester at NSCC. With his military background and the ability to learn and adapt quickly, he's ready for the challenges ahead. 


Nick Punjabi

(2nd place)

Nick is a global citizen with East and West Indian heritage. An ambitious digital and communications graduate, Nick is a Venture for Canada Fellow and has worked with Fusion Halifax and RBC.


Madeline Jewers

(3rd place)

Madeline is a self-motivated soon-to-be graduate from NSCC with a diploma in Finance. She is passionate about sharing her financial advising and planning knowledge to improve quality of life for others.


Samuel Levac-levey

Sam is a mechanical engineer who is passionate about fighting climate change. He has designed rocket parts, robots, drones, and more. He runs a happiness group and has lead teams of more than 30 people.


Molly Marcott

Molly is a self-proclaimed “communications geek” with a passion for storytelling. Graduating from the Dalhousie Bachelor of Commerce program this spring, she is eager to put her skills in marketing to the test.


Lorenzo Gallardo

Lorenzo will be graduating from NSCC Ivany campus with a Business Administration diploma, and a concentration in entrepreneurship. As co-president of his school’s Enactus team, he has developed leadership, marketing, and entrepreneurial skills.


Adrienne Motas

Adrienne will be graduating from NSCC this year with an Accounting Degree and CPA. She is passionate in the business environment and working hard to achieve a successful career and bright future. 


Chad LeRue

Chad is graduating from Dalhousie with a Mechanical Engineering degree in May. His passion is renewable energy. He has experience working in a battery research lab and leading a society dedicated to renewable energy projects.


Lu Xu

Storyteller Lu learned multimedia and writing skills from her journalism degree at the University of King’s College. She’s bilingual in Mandarin and English, and culturally adaptable with extensive international working experience.


Stephen Smith

A recent graduate with a PhD in history from Queen’s, Stephen is excited for a future in Halifax. With extensive work experience in tour guiding and education, he could be just what you’re looking for.
