Halifax Hosting World Energy Cities Partnership 20th AGM

Mayor Mike Savage Reelected WECP President

HALIFAX, NS – The World Energy Cities Partnership (WECP) is holding its 20th Annual General Meeting in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada this week. This afternoon, Halifax Mayor Mike Savage was elected President of the WECP for a second two-year term.

Headquartered in Houston, the WECP is an international organization of 19 world energy capitals collaborating to strengthen multilateral ties and grow the global energy economy. The City of Halifax and the Halifax Partnership are hosting the WECP’s 2017 AGM with over 60 mayors, economic development and business delegates from 14 cities attending. WECP delegates have also had the opportunity to participate in the 35th Annual Core Energy Conference, held in conjunction with the AGM.

“The WECP is committed to creating a greener, safer energy future,” said Halifax Mayor and WECP President Mike Savage. “Through our global partnership, we are building business, economic, academic and cultural ties that have wide-ranging positive impacts in the energy sector as well as other areas like health care and ocean science.”

The annual WECP meeting brings together municipal, industry and post-secondary leaders to explore global challenges and build partnerships that support positive, transformative change. This year’s AGM is focused on innovation and new energy frontiers. It has included sessions on tidal and renewable energy and best practices in sustainability, urban and economic development, and ocean and atmospheric science.
