September 21, 2017

HALIFAX, NS - The Halifax Partnership won a Gold Excellence in Economic Development Award for its Game Changers Awards Celebration and a Silver Excellence in Economic Development Award for its Sell Halifax – Toronto Mission.

The honour was presented at an awards ceremony on September 19 during the IEDC Annual Conference, held September 17-20 in Toronto. The conference and awards are opportunities to showcase Halifax’s programs and initiatives on the world stage as best practices.

“On behalf of the IEDC board of directors and Excellence in Economic Development Awards Advisory Committee, congratulations to the Halifax Partnership. Not only did they work to provide a necessary service to their community, but their participation in the awards program sheds light on their stellar projects which other communities can now use as a benchmark,” says Michael Langley, FM. CEO of Greater Minneapolis–St. Paul and 2017 IEDC Board Chair.

The Game Changers Awards Celebration, launched last fall, recognizes exceptional Halifax businesses, organizations, and individuals that demonstrate leadership in hiring youth, helping them grow professionally, and inspiring others to take action on keeping young professionals in Halifax and Nova Scotia.

The Sell Halifax Program, launched in June 2016, aims to attract new investment, business, and innovation partnerships to Halifax. Toronto was the first Sell Halifax mission, and it exceeded all expectations. Mayor Savage presented to a sold-out crowd of over 200 business leaders at a luncheon and again at an evening reception in Toronto which generated quality leads and excitement about the “new” Halifax.

“We are very excited about these awards,” says Ron Hanlon, President & CEO of Halifax Partnership. “They showcase Halifax as a great city that is open for business, with many capable motivated young professionals who want to start careers here. I’m proud of our team and the excellent work we are doing to grow Halifax.”

The Partnership also ranked as one of the winners of fDi’s American Cities of the Future 2017-18. Halifax ranked #7 in the Top 10 Mid-Sized American Cities of the Future – Human Capital and Lifestyle.
