Wendy Luther Announced as President & CEO of Halifax Partnership

Posted: May 2, 2019

Wendy’s 17 years of experience in leadership positions representing Nova Scotia nationally and internationally is an outstanding asset to the Partnership as it continues to build upon the positive indicators that are driving success in our city.

“Halifax is buzzing with energy and momentum, and Wendy is the right person to help the Halifax Partnership harness those forces,” says Matt Hebb, Chair of the Board of Directors. “Her work in raising the profile of Halifax and Nova Scotia on the world stage in her previous roles has been truly exceptional.

We look forward to Wendy leading Halifax Partnership into the next phase of our story. Halifax is quickly becoming one of the best mid-sized cities in North America in which to live, work, and do business. There’s more work to do, and Wendy will be instrumental in building upon past successes.”

Wendy brings an outstanding track record to the Partnership, most recently serving as President and CEO of EduNova since 2012. With a mandate to elevate Nova Scotia’s profile for international students, EduNova works with universities, colleges, private schools and a network of consultants to highlight Nova Scotia’s education advantage.

While at EduNova, Wendy developed the award-winning Study and Stay™ program, which incentivizes international students to stay in Nova Scotia and build their careers here. Results show over 80 per cent of the first cohort of the Study and Stay program are still in Nova Scotia, contributing to the dynamic business climate that the Partnership is committed to building. This experience will serve Wendy well in continuing to drive toward achieving the Halifax Economic Growth Plan’s ambitious goals of growing our population to 550,000 and GDP to $30 billion by 2031.

Prior to EduNova, Wendy spent time as a Trade Development Executive with Nova Scotia Business Inc. (NSBI), working to market Nova Scotia to the world as an investment opportunity and a thriving export market.

“I'm excited to get started with the Partnership. I have long believed in the work that the Partnership does, and this is an amazing opportunity to be a part of the team. Ours is a dynamic and growing city and I believe the Partnership has been key in Halifax's recent momentum,” says Wendy Luther.

“I look forward to building on this momentum and to working with the city’s incredible business community, our investors, and other stakeholders to support what the Partnership does best – playing a leading role in positioning Halifax as a city of the future, a magnet for young people and a catalyst for vibrant businesses.”

“It's an amazing time for the Halifax region and the strong team at the Halifax Partnership has been instrumental in pursuit of a more populous, prosperous future," says Mayor Mike Savage. "I welcome Wendy to this role and I look forward to working closely with her as we continue this important work with the Partnership.”

The Partnership also wishes to extend a sincere thank you to interim President and CEO John Rogers, who has served with distinction during his time in the role.

The selection committee included members of the Board of Directors and Partnership investors. The search was conducted by Royer Thompson.

The Halifax Partnership is Halifax’s economic development organization. It helps keep, grow and get business, talent and investment in Halifax. It does this through leadership on economic issues, core programs, partnerships across all sectors, and by marketing Halifax to the world.
